Versace’s Trésor de la Mer print, originally from the SS 1992 runway show, was the textile inspiration for my mermaid duo.

As a tribute to the brand’s late founder Gianni Versace, his sister Donatella’s SS18 collection for Versace was a reworking of historic prints, archival looks and the glamorous vibe Versace is famous for. It’s French connection is it’s reinterpretation of French Renaissance art. It’s definitely one of my favourite shows from the past few years and I knew I either had to own a piece or at least draw something from it. Two beautiful girls with underwater-like mermaid hair wear two of the iconic runway looks. Gold and diamond encrusted jewellery and accessories swing from gold chains featuring étoile de mer (starfish), scallop and conch shells.

‘Trésor de la Mer’ stars a fair haired, big eyed, sweet girl wearing a tied shirt and pleated skirt with Lion’s Paw shell belt buckle set on a dusty rose background.
